Here’s what the top three from both races had to say at the Hungaroring once the dust had settled.
Race 1
Jochen Hahn - Team Hahn Racing | IVECO
“Adam [Lacko] made a small mistake and allowed me to get in there. It was an absolutely clean fight. I gave him space, he gave me space. I wouldn’t be able to fight like that with anyone else. When I passed, I was just thinking ‘go, go, go, go!’ To win three out of five races this season is a dream that came true. It doesn’t feel like a real situation. We’re fighting at the front, I’m happy.”
Norbert Kiss – Team Tankpool24 Racing | Mercedes-Benz
“The race went much better than qualifying. I had a fairly good start. I stayed on the outside of Ryan [Smith], so I could overtake him going into Turn 2. I think Jochen and Adam [Lacko] came together so I could attack Jochen but I was really focused on keeping Ryan behind. Maybe a lap or two later Jochen attacked Adam and that presented me with an overtaking opportunity – I went for it and it worked, I was second.
"I could see there was a lot of trouble behind us, so there was a gap behind me. I was pushing, trying to catch Jochen, but… not really, he was really fast. Congratulations to him! I’m happy with my second place cause it’s really nice to finish second after such a bad qualifying.”
Steffi Halm – Team Schwabentruck | IVECO
“Qualifying was not what I expected. This year, if you’re not performing at 100% in qualifying, you’re ending up outside of the top two rows and that’s precisely what happened – I finished sixth and I was a little bit disappointed.
"I was studying the data after and I knew where I lost time. That calmed me down and I knew that we’re going to have a good pace in the race. At the start I was able to overtake Antonio [Albacete]. A little bit later, when Jochen tried to overtake Adam, the position changing started. Adam made a little mistake, missed the breaking point. That was my chance. After that I had enough gap opened to control my race
Race 2
Adam Lacko – Buggyra International Racing System | Freightliner
“First, the servo cooler broke down, started leaking and the liquid was spilled over a disc break, causing it immiedately to crack. The vibrations were so hard that I was hard to hold on to the steering wheel. I finished the race but it was very hard. It was great to win the race after the disappointment of Race 1. I’m happy for myself and for my team, but I think they’ll have a big job to do again.”
Rene Reinert – Team Reinert Adventure | MAN
“I was a really good race in what was overall not a good day for us as we had a lot of technical problems. In race three I was third on the start, had a very good start but only gained on place. At the end I had a chance to win, Adam had a problem. Overall it was a really good race, also for the people who watched it. In the beginning of the race Adam wasn’t too fast, he was sliding around but in the middle phase he was faster than me.”
Steffi Halm – Team Schwabentruck | IVECO
“Qualifying, like I said before wasn’t perfect, but the outcome of the race was just perfect. I was starting sixth. I wasn’t a good start, my reaction time was late but, luckily, I didn’t lose any positions. I was difficult cause Shane [Brereton] was in front. He was slow but it wasn’t easy to find a way through. Then I had a little contact with Sascha [Lenz]. After, when I passed Shane, it seemed easy to open a gap. I was fighting with my tyres, so I was very happy when the race was over.”
